The Spanish National Agency for Scientific Research (CSIC) informs about the use of cookies on its websites.

Cookies are files that can be downloaded to your computer through websites. They are tools that play an essential role in the provision of numerous information society services. Among other things, they allow a website to store and retrieve information about the browsing habits of a user or their computer and, depending on the information obtained, they can be used to recognize the user and improve the service offered.

Depending on the entity that manages the domain from which the cookies are sent and processes the data obtained, two types can be distinguished: first-party cookies and third-party cookies.

There is also a second classification based on the length of time that they remain stored in the client’s browser, which may be session cookies or persistent cookies.

Finally, there is another classification with five types of cookies depending on the purpose for which the data obtained is processed: technical cookies, personalization cookies, analysis cookies, advertising cookies and behavioral advertising cookies.

Cookies used in the site

The website uses Matomo, an analytics tool that helps websites understand how their visitors interact. A set of cookies are used to collect information and report website usage statistics without personally identifying visitors. More information about Matomo cookies and information about privacy.

For social media promotion, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram cookies are being used so that our visitors can follow us on these networks, in addition to inserting Twitter and YouTube content into the website.

We use WordPress for website development and Divi (Elegant Themes) for design, so their cookies are also used. Likewise, we use HAProxy for website performance optimization and session cookies such as SERVIRED for load balancing functionality. A technical cookie called cdp-cookies-plugin-wp is also downloaded to manage the user’s consent for the use of cookies on the website, in order to remember those users who have accepted them and those who have not, so that the former are not shown information about them on the page.

Acceptance of the Cookies Policy

The State Agency Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) assumes that you accept the use of cookies. However, at the top of any page of the portal, information about its Cookies Policy will be displayed so that you are aware of it.

With this information, it is possible to carry out the following actions:

– Accept cookies: if the user clicks the accept button, this notice will not be displayed again when accessing any page of the portal.
– Review the cookies policy: The user can access this page where the use of cookies is detailed, as well as links to modify the browser settings.
