Core technologies programme

Scientific progress in biomedical research often goes hand in hand with technological advances and interdisciplinary research. Therefore, it is mandatory that support infrastructures providing cutting-edge technologies and expertise in an affordable manner (i.e. core facilities) are made easily accessible to scientists.

As part of its commitment to quality, R&D&i and excellence in fundamental and applied research in neuroscience and chemical science, the Ci2A makes Core Facilities available to researchers, including General Support and Scientific and Technical Services, so that they have a portfolio of services of the highest quality providing all the functional support and know-how to carry out research.

These Core Facilities are made available to researchers from the four CSIC centres located on the Alcalá campus, as well as other CSIC centres and related departments of the University of Alcalá and researchers from other public bodies and the business sector, to support fundamental and applied research in the field of healthcare.

Current biomedical research has become technologically challenging. Providing and maintaining all technologies necessary for the interdisciplinary approaches employed by scientists at leading research institutes have become quite difficult at the institutional level. The way this problem has been solved is the creation of institutional alliances in which a defined core facility provides technological support in its area of expertise while receiving technological support from other members of the alliance in other technical areas. In this regard, Ci2A has joined the Core Technologies for Life Sciences (https://ctls-org.eu/) institutional alliance.  The CTLS is a well-recognized networking non-profit association that brings together scientists, technical and administrative staff working across the world in core facilities, research infrastructures and other shared resource laboratories. It provides a platform to network, discuss emerging technologies and exchange information on best practices.
